Artist Statement

My works render the experience of time onto the two-dimensional surface. I layer images, colors, and shapes to represent the dynamic processes of experience and perception.

Artifacts are not static. They change over time through accretion and deterioration. How they are experienced changes based on context and perspective. What is celebrated in one context may be deplored in another, and these changes in perception influence how we construct meaning.

In my works, I juxtapose images with shapes and colors to recontextualize how we perceive our constructed environment. A map, for example, reflects a contingent construction of physical space based on dynamic shifts in environment, human relationships, and arbitrary statements of meaning. I layer images such as maps, photographs, and advertisements with abstract images and shapes to expose the transitory, ephemeral nature of our reality.
